What type of Base Material should I use for my basket?
Carbon Steel (in natural finish): Strong and inexpensive. Very limited corrosion resistance in natural finish. Baskets made from carbon steel are a great choice for manual solvent cleaning, oil dipping and indoor material handling applications where light rusting will not stain or contaminate parts.
Carbon steel baskets should not be used without a surface coating for any long-term outdoor applications, in any aqueous (water-based) dipping or cleaning applications, or in any caustic environments.
304 Stainless Steel: The most common of the industrial stainless steel grades. Good corrosion resistance in wet and mildly caustic environments. Good high temperature strength to 1200°F. Slightly stronger than carbon steel.
316 Stainless Steel: Higher Nickel content than 304 Stainless Steel makes it slightly more expensive and more corrosion resistant than 304. Good high temperature strength to 1200°F. 316 Stainless Steel Baskets are slightly stronger than carbon steel baskets.
Wire Mesh Size Designation: Wire mesh is designated by "Mesh Number" (number of wires per inch) and "Wire Diameter" (the diameter of each wire). A higher "mesh number" means more wires to the inch, a higher "wire diameter" means a thicker wire.
